Micah at 18 Months

I cannot believe that I posted absolutely nothing all summer. Even sadder is how few pictures I took. In my defense, we did move twice during that time period, so I had my hands a little bit full, but I still regret the lack of pictures. I hope to get back in the swing of things now that we are settled (mostly) into our new house and I have access to our computer again. For now, I just want to catch up on Micah's stats.


In April, we had Micah's 15 month check-up. At that point, he was 31.75 inches long (71%) and 25 lbs (58%). Last week, we took him in for his 18 month appointment. He is now 33.25 inches long (78%) and 27.13 lbs (67 %). He has been having a growth spurt, but we already knew that by how fast he is outgrowing his clothes. Micah is changing right before out eyes on what seems like a daily basis at this point. It kind of makes me want to just slow down time. Micah is so much fun to be around. Although, he is at the age that is characterized by tantrums (which he does have his fair share of), the majority of the time, he remains a very sweet spirited and affectionate little boy.

He is finding more and more ways to communicate. He uses gestures, signs, and facial expressions. He is an extremely animated child when he is comfortable. He is now using 40+ words and seems to be adding new words on a daily basis.


In the past, Micah has been a bit on the timid side. That really is not the case anymore. He is now eager to try new things (especially if it is something big brother is doing) and has become somewhat adventurous (which makes me a bit nervous ;-). Micah's funny sense of humor is developing more and he keeps us laughing with his silliness.


Micah loves food! If I even say a word that remotely has to do with food or even sounds a little like food (i.e. bunch rhymes with lunch ;-), he will "oooh!" and make a beeline to the kitchen. Both of my boys are bottom-less pits these days, but Micah seems to be pounding down my pantry door at least every hour.


Micah is beginning to assert his independence more. He wants to do everything by himself and gets upset if we try to do it for him. He also loves to be my helper. When he accomplishes something on his own or helps us with a task, he will throw his arms up in the air (think touchdown sign) and cheer out of pride.

Like Austin, Micah is a very sympathetic/nurturing child. If Austin gets hurt or is upset, Micah rushes to his aid. The other day, I stubbed my toe and within seconds, I had both boys by my side offering to kiss my toe and make it feel better. ;-) So sweet!

More than anything, Micah loves his big brother, Austin. Although they do fight and bicker over toys at times (Micah can dish it out just as well as Austin can ;-), they really do play very well together and can spend an hour or more in the "playroom" (the far end of Austin's room) playing with trains, cars and books. The first thing that Micah does when he wakes up in the morning is to ask for Austin (followed immediately by asking for food ;-) and it is rare that he wants to be apart from him. I was convinced that Micah would be thrilled once Austin went back to school and the two of us could have some one on one time together. Well, that joy lasted all of 45 minutes before he started pouting about missing Austin. ;-)
